				| Does anybody know if there's a way to verify that your passport is being renewed? (I have my old one that just expired.) Mine is in the mail, but I don't want to wait 2-3 weeks to apply for uni jobs just because it's not here yet? | |

				| I presume that you are in your home country. Just apply, explain your situation, and if they really care you can send them a copy of the old one to verify your identity. | |

				| You could apply anyway. Just explain that you are waiting for your new passport and will send a photo along when it arrives.
If you send a photocopy of the old one, be careful to mention that it is expired and that the new one arriving will have a DIFFERENT NUMBER. (They change on U.S. passports, anyway.) It could screw up the whole process if the Chinese side starts processing paperwork based on the expired number. For that reason, I wouldn't send a photo of the old one, or would send it with the number blocked out.
