I have seen some dicussion recently on these two unis.

If I were to pick one, it would be UJ as it is in the north of Jeddah and less paper work and red tape. Fewer people looking over your shoulder and no observations.

One good thing about KAU is the staff. Great bunch of guys. But after that, maybe the chance for OT. Then it's all downhill.

At KAU, the uni follows Islamic values. It is odd then they refused to pay 3000$ and simply said outright, we arent paying and if you come after us, you are fired.

What's wrong with being observed?

Still sore about that? They obviously had a reason not to pay you. Time to let it go.

This may just be me, but the package on offer from UJ was a little on the low side. the offer I got from KSU-PYP via ALHussan was a lot higher.

Was the Al-Hussan offer the total package (i.e., housing and transport allowances + salary) or just salary alone? What's the breakdown for both offers?

Nomad

I am telling the readers thinking about the KSA that few rules if any are enforced.

I did nothing wrong and the labor laws clearly state employees are to be paid. In fact, they told me they would pay me but it would damage relationships. And for that, I would be fired.

However, you're the only poster to ever complain about KAU not paying. Whatever the details, this was an isolated issue between you and the university and is not indicative of others' direct-hire experiences at KAU nor KSA in general.

Well AlHussans total package came in at SAR 16500 plus flights etc.

UJ offered SAR 12,150 total plus 50% furniture allowance and your usual flights etc.

The other difference bar the salary was the fact that UJ offer 60 days leave as opposed to KSU (AlHussan) 30 days.

NS - I wanted to ask if direct hire such as (UJ) allow family to come along with the teacher (same time) or is it the same as AlHussan and you have to apply for them later.

I do remember during the whole application stage they did ask for details of my spouse and dependant.

In addition to the difference in paid-time off, what's the actual breakdown for each offer (i.e., housing (included or allowance), transportation allowance, flights for family, etc.)? This is key when deciding between two or more offers.

As for bringing dependents with you, you'll have to ask UoJ.

As a direct hire you are allowed to bring your dependents with you same time. I suggest you apply for their visa in the same time as yours. If you leave it later, then it will take you between 2 and and 6 months to bring them to the Magic Kingdom, plus the headache for them to prepare all the necessary documents + medical certificates + certification, etc.
Also, if you have children in the primary or secondary schools, you have to bring their certified school certificates to register them with the school in the Magic Kingdom - and this is another headache for you. Also, don't forget their vaccination cards, you need it in the Magic Kingdom.
Good luck.

That assumes UoJ covers dependent flights, which is why I asked about a breakdown of benefits rather than the total package for both offers. (It's highly doubtful Al-Hussan offers dependent flights.)

Hi NS, Al-Hussan to provide flights for up to 3 dependants as well as health care, but no mention of education for children etc (I wont be needing this for the time being)

That's generous of them. Wink
Better check your contract to make sure it's included.

Smile That's one of the reasons I took the role, I just double checked the contract I signed and it does state flight is covered for instructor and upto 3 dependants.
