How can an ESL person get a job in Bahrain? What are the places to apply at?

There aren't many opportunities in Bahrain. It is a very small place. All you can do is watch for ads on various EFL sites including this one and visit any university/school websites to see if they list any openings.

If you're American with a TEFL-related MA and experience, the ELF program has a project in Bahrain. Otherwise, as VS suggested, check out each university's employment page individually for any vacancies.

I take it from your use of "apply at" that you are from North America. If not, and possibly even if, you could try the British Council and the British Language Centre. Don't expect a stellar salary or to save much.

I came across a few teachers of EFL in Bahrain. Macedonian, Polish, Iranian. I did not meet any from UK or US. Salaries are ,low. Living costs high.

Perhaps we move in different circles. I met them through IELTS examining at the BC in Manama. Came across some in the seedier joints of that town too but they were all unsavoury Brits in the pay of BAE in Khobar.

But I am sure that you agree that the market for teachers in Bahrain is tiny in comparison to demand in KSA.

Stay away from Talal Abu Ghazaleh University College of Business (TAGUCB). They are on their 5th ESL teacher in as many years. It's only been open for 5 years. It's actually operated by a law firm as a side business. Someone I know who works at the Bahrain MOE said it may get shut down soon because the place is a zoo.

There is currently a position advertised on tefl.com for British Council in Bahrain. Does anyone have any insight on working at this BC specifically? Work conditions, pay, accommodation, etc.

I worked for the BC in Seoul for four years. I also have a friend at the BC in Bahrain. They have a lot of teachers.

It's usually a very professional setup with well-experienced teachers who do a good job in the classroom. Students often expect this and are motivated.

But the BC is a big organisation with many agendas apart from English teaching which basically funds the operation and is the Cinderalla.

if you can hack the pro-Brit propaganda and the fact that you are serving the interests of a dying empire, you'll be fine.

I couldn't...

And accept that in the BC there is an "Upstairs" and there is a "Downstairs". Teachers are downstairs with the servants. (I refer to a well-known TV series from the 1970s)
