I am heading to Shanghai to take a TEFL course in the beginning of July. The plan is to head to Qingdao after that and search for a job. Does anyone have any information on expected pay in Qingdao? I do not have any teaching experience, but do hold a BA and will have a TEFL certificate. Any information is appreciated!

Cheers

Do you expect to return home to complete the visa formalities?
If you are in QD in August most/all schools will be closed.
Why not apply now?

Can't you get a work visa in Hong Kong instead of going back home?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the work visa can be obtained by going to Hong Kong, correct? Everyone that I have talked to has suggested waiting until I get there to actually get a job, that way I am able to negotiate salary and determine the best job available. So any information on actual expected pay/benefits on jobs in Qingdao?

It depends on the jurisdiction. I believe that in Shanghai now you do not need to leave at all, but Qingdao is strict. Last I heard you needed to return to your home country, but maybe some research or someone on the board knows differently.

OP seems disinclined to deviate from his/her cunning plan.
Because my home is the sthn hemisphere I spent July/August on campus commuting to a summer programme job - Wed-Sun.
Believe me the only life on campus in August is the gate guys smoking and playing cards and the occasional cleaner or painter.
If you are confident that you can get a Z in HK - OK, but before any of that happens you need an offer and to do that you need to see or speak to an FAO.
Language schools are open in July and August and expect a certain amount of drop in applicants.
I really do advise you to use the remainder of May+June to line a few things up or do your Qingdao sleuthing before your course.
A serious school (public or private) will have an idea about the HK visa aspect.
Can't fault your choice of cities though!
Best
