I recently left my company and was told I need to immediately find another sponsor or grave consequences will follow. I do not necessarily believe this change is as urgent nor as gravely dire as they suggested, however I assume I must report to immigration as soon as I can all the same. I have requested from this company a letter of release which I will retrieve this week.

What are my next steps? I have a company that will sponsor the visa I have, but just now spent 35 minutes waiting on the line with immigration only to be told to visit their website for the required information. I have found information regarding a change of status, but I am not sure this is exactly what I am looking for. The situation is simply I have a visa, it's in my possession, the expiration date is a year off, and I have a few companies willing to pick up the sponsorship.

I would be happier to hear about someone's experience with the matter, or any other advice. Does this cost money? What documents must I bring to immigration? Should my new sponsor physically come with me to immigration? And so on.

Thanks

The visa is yours until it expires; you don't need to change sponsors.

If your old job keeps hassling you, simply thank them and tell them you have changed sponsors.

Interesting topic! So If my visa lasts 3 years, for a job with a contract of 13 months. Say I quit said job in 10 months, I dont have to do anything regarding my visa until those 3 years are up? I can just stay in the country and make a living in any way I can manage?

If your visa is for 3 years and you quit 10 months into it, you have two years two months to do whatever job in your visa category you want.

I did the three-month Westgate gig and after that worked for a few schools (large and small) plus a university with my one-year work visa. When my visa expired I actually just went for the self sponsorship option which was relatively easy to get..

You don't say.

They mentioned reporting the reneged contract to immigration and implied this would be significant. Would immigration have any need to know this? I made it clear that I would be finishing with them but he had still told me this. Why would he say this?

Inflames's advice is sound.

Very good then.

I appreciate the contributions to this thread. If there are any unusual updates I will be sure to report back. If things go as the respondents have stated, I will report back too.
