I've worked with a couple of Ameson teachers at a university. They were good colleagues. It's a religious-based organisation but they don't (and the colleagues didn't cram it down anyone's throats Students or us colleagues).
They've been allowed to operate in China for a number of years with the govt.'s consent so I guess that says something. Unlike some other proselytisers I've met from other groups, like Mormons, who tend to lay low.
They gave me a copy of Ameson's Teacher Training Manual which was solid, and well done. Lots of good stuff in it, some of which I use. No hint of religion in any of the material.
I'd say its a solid group though I generally despise religious groups in general. my colleagues were happy and never got screwed by either Ameson or the school. Had the school tried, I'm sure Ameson would have had their back. (The school did try to screw me, but I had to rely on my own instincts and experience to win that fight without the backing of anyone else.) |

I don't think there has been a thread on religious proselytizers among FTs in my recollection.
I don't mind the overt ones like Ameson who seem to deliver worthwhile teaching. It's the covert ones who use teaching to get contact with young people who I find distasteful. |

I'm off my territory here but religious proselytizers interest me. We had a small family who relocated to the Czech Rep from somewhere in the US south a few years back, under the impression that the husband could ply both trades (EFL + Baptist doctrine) while his stay-at-home wife would host coffee klatches with the local housewives to do same.
It was a fairly massive failure, mostly due to the largely atheist population of the country.
I wonder how well these folk are received in Asia generally? Probably more politely at least than in the Czech Rep. |

Given the respect for teachers in China and the age of our students, I think FTs get away with it.
Whether adult Chinese would be like the Czechs I'm not sure. |
