My first posting - how exciting!
My boyfriend and I are wanting to go teach in China for 6 months, and I've seen lots of job postings, but they all start Sept 1st at the latest. I really want to stay in Canada til the 3rd for a wedding...does anyone know what the job market is like mid-Sept or even the start of Oct? I don't want to leave myself with no options. Looking forward to getting lots of good advice from all you experts! |

Demand constantly exceeds supply in this game. I'm sure arriving a week after term starts won't deter a school that may otherwise miss out on the mandatory white, vertical English speaker. If you're remotely qualified, that's even better. PM me for some leads that I can vouch for, as friends work there, and are staying on. |

There are some jobs here in my small town at a private school that will be available between september and november. But I must warn anybody thats interested about a few things. The kids can be nasty, they expect someone who can sing because I've been singing and playing guitar with the kids, and you'll be the only 2 foreign teachers at that school. The weather here in Guangdong is really hot (which I happen to like) and there are not many western amenities in this town. On the other hand, the school treats its teachers well, the pay is above normal and the town itself is beautiful. Trips in to Guangzhou are only an hour and a half by train and there are plenty of sites to see. Personally, I dont think I would teach at a private school in china again but it might be ok for someone starting out. Pm me if anyone is interested. Cheers |

Rhino's post sounds distinctly un-upbeat only a couple of months after his first post appeared here... |

My post was directed at only one of the many schools I teach at. For next semester this particualr school wants to hire their own foreign teachers instead of our institute. This school has certainly been my biggest challenge and the only downside to teaching here. On the other hand if I was only teaching at that school and could focus more of my energy there it might be better for me(not sure). I have been a bit down though roger but its only because I'm going home soon |
