Anyone taken a bike as hold luggage while travelling? Any problems at check-in?

I have done in Europe, London to Berlin on Lufthansa. Hardest bit was getting the bike to the airport - after that no probs. I had to check in a bit early and go to the "exceptional luggage" counter. Weight for weight it was a lot cheaper than excess baggage.
European airports are geared up for outsize sports equipment due to the annual skiing holiday trade. Whether the same applies in Asia Icouldn't say. |

If it's a new bike, I think you have to pay duty at some point.
Check with the airline about how they want it packed.
