A warning about this school to other teachers. I was hired by this school in the spring to begin work this summer. Knowing that the police in Taiwan have begun to crackdown on foreign teachers I thought it prudent to be careful about the ARC business. I emailed the woman who hired me, Amanda Hsu, to make sure that everything was above the board. Specifically, I was pressing to make sure that I would get an ARC.
After several emails and phonecalls in which she attempted to skirt the issue completely or to assure me that "the police won't know" it finally became obvious that the job, though real, was nonetheless under the table. When I stressed to her that the rules have changed here now and the job must be legal, she finally told me that they had found another teacher and that they didn't need me.
I know that the police have become quite strict about foreign teachers working illegally so I want to warn any teachers who've accepted summer employment at this school that you will be working illegally. Should the police visit the school, you will not have an ARC and you could be arrested. If you have accepted employment here please push Amanda Hsu to get you an ARC , otherwise you're taking your chances.

Good message ziggy. This is exactly the scenario and school that teachers need to know about and be warned about. Let's hope that the person who took the job doesn't run into any difficulties, hey!
