Hi
Does anybody have any information regarding Lincoln College in Al Qatif? I have been offered a job there but I can't seem to find any information, so am a bit hesitant accepting the offer.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, I think it is new. Qatif is very small and pretty, for acquired taste in rerum Arabica I mean. Excellent Souq Al Khamis there used to be [ now should have been renamed into Juma Souq??]

Odd that you say there's no info on the college (http://www.lincolnksa.com/en/news-and-events). Anyway, the female college in Qatief is new (http://www.lincolnksa.com/en/our-colleges), which usually equates to disorganization, long hours, cranky coworkers... |

Their language - I mean their website - is pretty giddy and immodest and their content quite razzmatzz. Where on earth do they think Qatif is?
For anyone who has ever been to KSA, let alone ancient fragile Qatif, well it all should be taken with cool-headed caution. But perhaps such are the rules of the game, where big stakes are involved...

Hmm... What gave you that impression?
About the dean:
Quote: |
Ann’s early career in the international 5-star Hospitality Industry has shaped her approach to prioritise excellence and skills gaps as part of educational design and provision.
Ann is a bubbly character with people development at the centre of her approach. A teacher at heart, Ann challenges and supports people to achieve their full potential. Ann is really excited by this inspiring venture and is looking forward to working and living in KSA whilst contributing to the Colleges of Excellence programme.

I should have been more specific. What I wanted to know was, if anyone has any experience with the college or area. But I'm assuming it's new, it isn't heard of in other forums either. Either that, or I should seriously reconsider |

New enterprises/start ups will have growing pains, so expect big bumps along the way for the first 1-2 years, which is typical. You'll have to decide if that's a work situation you're personally ready, willing, and able to handle. |

I've just recently graduated from university, so I can't really afford to be picky. I'm going to mull over it and see what happens. Do you work in Saudi? |

I left KSA two years ago and took a position in another Mid East country.
Maybe you don't have to be that picky. What are your qualifications (degree levels and majors; TEFL cert) and number of years of relevant experience? |

If you don't mind me asking, where do you currently work?
I'm a CELTA qualified graduate with a BA (Hons) in English and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. The nature of the degree course meant that I've spent the past three years studying the theory behind English Language Teaching, and applying it to many teaching practices; I've taught a diverse range of students, from many different cultural backgrounds. However that said, I don't have what employers consider 'appropriate' experience, which is rather disheartening.
Currently I'm working as an English mentor at a local tuition centre, not particularly enthralling but the kids are lovely...most of the time. |

That whole page is totally a mess. It says everything twice. It appears that she wrote a bio... and someone took that bio and turned it into third person... but then included her bio stuck on the bottom. So first you read it with "Ann" and then you read it with "I" LOL Too bad she didn't proofread the page.
And then there is the page that declares "English is taught by English Teachers" What a concept!! No one ever thought of that before. It declares that the male students are paid SR 990 a month to attend. I wonder what the women students get.
But I am being picky. The location seems terribly remote ... especially for a young newbie to the field and Saudi Arabia. I assume from your screen name that you are Muslim and on the surface it looks a nice enough facility. BUT, it says that it requires 3 years of teaching experience and I would assume mentoring children wouldn't count. Do you have that 3 years - teaching adults?

At this very moment, I'm in the US and don't plan to return to TEFL. (I'll finish my Master of Ed Technology by the end of the year.)
Have you looked into Korea? It's a top destination for newbie teachers for their first couple of years of experience before heading to the Gulf. |

Hi veiledsentinments (cool name),
I am indeed a Muslim. I taught adults only, 18+ years old, taught general English and English for academic purposes (business students). Do you have any recommendations on where I should apply?
If you don't mind me asking, are you currently working in KSA? |
