Like every other "good idea" in this place, it's just for show. After a couple of months it will be forced to shut down and will be boarded up.

no forethought, no planning, kulu kharban

But at least it will look nice and pretty and clean for the opening.

Doubt it. I used to live near Othaim Mall on the eastern ring road where it is. They've just spent a few years building the thing.

It will be a massive hit. IMO.

Did you see the Youtube commercial for Saudi National day?
A lookalike for King Abdulaziz shares the same hotel room with the current Saudi royals and they look down thru the window and see their dreams turn to reality:

a huge commercial center for Mecca with the world's largest hotel, and rivers winding thru a major city (Riyadh? Mecca? Jeddah?) with boat tours.

On that day, the price of oil will be $400 per barrel, and that ain't gonna happen.

I wonder if they had Dubai stand in for the photo shoot. If you build an indoor ski slope and a canal from the end of one Khor past the world's tallest building to a beach, they will come. They will come one time, realize that it is a grand facade and and then they will find a secluded, wild beach in another country. At least Dubai can charge exorbitant prices for a brew overlooking the desert ski slope for now.
