For people on a single, it won't really make much difference unless you're on vacation for longer than two months.
For those with multi, the validity periods just halved, so it has doubled in price basically.
It's a revenue raiser.. |

What does all that money go to? Imagine forking out that cash not knowing you might not last 1 month? |

• SR3,000 for the six-month visa.
• SR5,000 for the one-year visa.
• SR8,000 for the two-year visa.
Third: Clauses “first” and “second” shall not affect the bilateral agreements concluded between the Kingdom and other countries.
Fourth: The transit visa will be SR300.
Fifth: The departure visa fee will be SR50 for those leaving the Kingdom through seaports.
Sixth: The exit/re-entry visa fees will be as follows:
• SR200 for a single trip for two months as maximum, and SR100 for each additional month, within the limits of the duration of the residence permit’s validity.

When you try to apply for the new exit reentry visas online through SADAD, the payments for single and multiple visits default to 600 sr and 1100 sr respectively. What's up with that? |

I just had a look on my Absher account, and the price is still 200 and 500. |

Do the math.
• SR200 for two months plus 4 x SR100 for a total of six months.
• SR500 for three months plus 3 x SR200 for a total of six months.
They assume (probably correctly) that most people want to be away for as long as they possibly can.
Or else they suspect that about shebab, and know Big Durian is loyal to country of employment, hence only needs the minimum escape time. |

I attended a town hall meeting at the US embassy in August and the Consul General said that fees will not go up for US citizens. However, when I tried to pay the fee via SABB, the new fee is reflected. I have also spoken to the GR department at my uni and was told all nationalities will pay more. I then called the embassy and was given the original info: that fees for US citizens didn't change. It's all frustrating and I'm thinking to just pay the higher fee so I can take November break. |

Highly unlikely. If something along those lines was said at all, what they probably meant was something like "fees won't go up for US citizens on official govt. business in KSA, such as Embassy/Consular employees, US Dept of Defense and so on. Maybe even employees of Vinnell and so on since technically, they're on "official govt. businesss" in KSA.
And even if they did pay a fee, they themselves wouldn't have to actually "pay" it. They'd be reimbursed courtesy of the income taxes you and I pay voluntarily to the IRS on a yearly basis.
