KABUL, Afghanistan - The American University of Afghanistan is under attack, according to multiple accounts. CBS News’ Ahmad Mukhtar reports from Afghanistan that several American professors are inside, along with possibly hundreds of students. Many appear to have escaped through emergency doors.

Witnesses say they heard gunshots, then a blast, and many believe it was the gate blown open, letting the attackers inside.

Per usual - wars are for soldiers not TEFL teachers.

It's astonishing the university was kept open. There've been numerous warnings since the beginning of the year. The Afghan government had ordered all foreigners to leave or hire security teams.

This went out in May

The university should have been shut down. You can't build possibly build secure panic rooms to house an entire university staff and students. The British Council school was was attacked 5 years ago. Luckily (for some) the school was housed on an old diplomatic compound. After the attack, the BC was shifted to the embassy area. Libya was put down to insufficient security. This may not be an embassy but many Americans work there. That's why it's called AUAF. Who are you going to pin the blame on this time Mrs Clinton? Red tape?

Breitbart? The garbage pit of news sources. As Trump's new handlers, of course it is all about HRC. Rolling Eyes

The students are desperate for an education. They know the risks much better than we do. And any teacher/professor who goes there and doesn't know the risks... well...

In view of what's happened and you haven't got a clue what it's like here (students have died), I suggest you keep your cynicism to yourself.

This is NOT the case. Come and talk to 'em. In Dari or Pashto.

So these students have never heard of the Taliban? They are unaware that they live in a country where death comes daily? ...and has done for way too many years.

Besides, they are there learning English and their teachers include friends of friends. I have friends who know some of the students who died. They give these students much more credit than you do.
