Yo,
My wife and I spent 7 months working in Luoyang last year before they made us go home because of SARS. I really enjoyed my time in Luoyang. The people were very nice, everyone will try to talk to you, it's flat so it's easy to ride a bike everywhere. Great restaurant/bar run by a Swiss guy(Paul). If you look up Luoyang on this website other people have talked about it. Won't find western food but they do have 1 McD's and 1 KFC. We worked at a middle school but knew people that worked at the Uni and they enjoyed it. Not long train or bus ride to X'ian to see terracotta warriors. If you want a city thats not really "countryside" and something less modern then Shanghai or Beijing, Luoyang is a good place.
That's just my opinion though, good luck |
