The Global Times never said that those in B and C category will have a harder time. They just said that B and C would be "limited," which means everything and nothing at the same time. They also state that FEC holders are currently considered "top talent," and that the A category will also be for "top talent," implying that those who hold an FEC now will be categorized as A level workers. One positive change is that foreign expert certificates and alien employment permits will take the form of a card rather than a book, which can be used as ID. We won't have to carry our passports everywhere anymore. |

If the card works like a shenfenzheng (chinese ID card) it also will cut down on lots of wasted time. For example, you can order your train tickets online and retrieve them from a machine instead of waiting in line. |

You can already order them online. You just need to pick them up at the pick-up counter, not the machine. |

I know, but the pick up line is exactly that, a line. I have waited up to an hour to get tickets I already purchased, quite annoying. |

That long? Every time I've done it I only had two or three people in front of me. You just hand them your ID and the verification code. |

I've never had to wait an hour, but it's not hard for me to imagine. And what I imagine is instantly agitated by line budgers. It was explained by a native that they might otherwise miss their train, so allowances for emergency.
I've waited an average of around twenty minutes. You know, about as long as a McDonald's que.
You guys have seen Last Train Home(2009)? |

Yeah, usually about 20 minutes, but I have had other times it took about an hour. The problem is most train stations don't have a dedicated live for online ticket retrieval, because a Chinese person can just use the machine. Usually it is like a miscellaneous line (ticket pick up, veterans, ticket changes) and you end up with everyone and there brother in the line. People trying switch tickets then buy tickets. Most of the issue is the staff refusing to say no. All they have to do is say wrong line move on, but they seldom do.
But beyond that, it would be nice to have a card for ID (bank, trains, planes, contracts for apartments/internet/phone, and many other random things). |

That was an interesting read. Thank you for posting it. It really gets the mind wondering how this latest twist will end up making this work-in-china overhaul even more twisted. |

Anyway, I wouldn't hold out hope for using the card at a machine. The machine would need to be recalibrated for that. The Global Times does say that the card can be used for domestic travel.
I always found it strange that the train ticket machines require a Chinese ID card but still have an English option |
