Hi, My name is Fleur. I'm a teacher in Australia and I'm planning to fly to Mexico in the middle of August. I've been trying to apply for jobs in Mexico over the internet for the last couple of months. With the most recent being with the Canadian Center in Chiapas. Does anyone know about these guys? I know that it's cool to just rock up to Mexico and try for jobs. But I was wondering if there were any extra job sites people know of? I've already checked on the ones that have been posted. Also, does anyone know about chatwell international? I applied with them and had an interview in April for jobs in Aguascalientes in Mexico and the last time I heard from them was about a month ago. If anyone knows anything please let me know. Last question After sending your C.V etc how long should you wait to hear back fom a school? One week? Two? I know Mexicans always say Manana Manana.
Thanks for yoyr help

Don't know much about Canadian Center, but I do know there is nothing Canadian about the center. It is Mexican owned and operated. A while back I had a phone interview with the director (Candy) she informed me of how they preferred to hire Canadians as opposed to U.S citizens because "Canadians are more reliable". She drew this conclusion after 2 teachers from the USA made a midnight move and left them in a bit of a pickle. Somehow, these 2 were enough for Candy to make such a rediculous generalization.
I didn't accept the position she was offering at the time. I somehow get the impression that the 2 in question left for some reason.... |

This may not apply to the "Canadian Center of Chiapas", but "Canadian" has popped up in the names of Mexican English-teaching institutes over the last few years. For professionals who plan to emigrate, Canada is a better option than the United States (Canada is recruting professional immigrants and advertises their better social services network). Schools have responded to the perceived demand and starting marketing "Canadian English" (whatever that is) to a relatively insecure middle class market. |
