My impression from what I have read on this site and others is that ESL teaching is an ageism ridden profession.

Nations and employers appear to arbitrarily set age limits deciding when someone is deemed no longer young enough to teach ESL. Of course, in doing so, they completely ignore the many years of classroom experience and higher education these older teachers may have as compared to younger ESL teachers.

What do ESL teachers here think of the present situation and have you been the target of ageism in your ESL teaching career or know of such cases?

Ageism in terms of employment, no.

I have the qualifications and experience to not have to worry about being over 50 and applying for entry level EFL jobs. I have never had a problem finding or keeping work.

Ageism in terms of visa issuance, most definitely but that is not an EFL issue but one of migration and the immigration services / laws of the applicable countries.
