I really liked the Zhoushan Islands, save for the tourist trap prices. A gentleman from Shanghai was joking to us in a restaurant that the fish in Shanghai from Zhoushan was cheaper than it was in Zhoushan.
A very underrated archipelago. So close to major cities, but so undeveloped still. Shows what Chinese think of the water. Chinese all go to the same two beaches and crowd together in the middle, leaving entire beaches for you, your lady friend and the cobras which reside there. It is funny how they will spend a week there and do nothing save visit the beach and giant Buddha and eat fish. Don't remember it being an exciting city nor having a lot of Western amenities, but it has been five years.
No idea on Quzhou, but nothing about it seems to stand out.
Travel to Hangzhou and Shanghai is certainly better from Zhoushan. |
