Hi Folks,

I live and work in Abu Dhabi, UAE. I'm driving to Riyadh from Abu Dhabi for a 2 week holiday from Dec. 15th - 31st. I'll be driving in a rental car, rented from an agency in Abu Dhabi.

What is the procedure for taking the car over the border? Do I need a letter of no objection / permission from the rental agency or the owner of the car (often a bank / credit company) to do this?

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Regards

Your best source is the rental company (I'd ask 2 or 3 of them). Next is likely the Saudi Embassy.

The border police in the UAE will stop you and turn you back to the UAE.
If you want to cross the border between the UAE and Saudi Arabia or Oman, you need a permission letter from the car hire company.
UAE residents who want to drive to Oman and Saudi Arabia in a hire car are being forced to secure written approval from car hire companies first, in the wake of a spate of car thefts, it was reported on Monday

A holiday in Riyadh? That sounds like an oxymoron.
