A friend of mine is looking for a job in Chongqing. He is in Beijing and makes 20k and said he would be willing to take less to live in Chongqing. He's wondering if there are any jobs that would be around 18k that include housing or something similar. I don't know much about Chongqing so I figured I would post here.

His reason for moving is that I will start a job there soon.

He has 3 years experience and a tefl certification.

Thanks for any help.

Normally NCUK (The Northern Consortium of British Universities) is a good bet, but they have no vacancies at the moment. They pay well and have a suitable set up, as they are funnelling students to UK universities. The new semester starts after the Chinese new year, so maybe they will advertise in January.

As to Chongqing, you should have a good reason for wanting to be there. Very hilly and extremely hot in the summer. When I was working for NCUK in (very polluted) Chengdu in neighbouring Sichuan, the joke was Chongqing was so bad it made Chengdu look good. Sometimes Chengdu staff were offered jobs in Chongqing and refused to relocate. I spent about 10 days there, and remember massive glitzy shopping centres that had very few customers as locals didn't have the salaries to splash out on Burberry and the like. And in taxis, I felt I was going up and down endless hills. On the plus side, it was a priority development region for the government, so got preferential treatment.
