Greetings friends!
I’ve read through the post on this, but I thought it best to post directly about it to see if anyone could point me in a specific direction. My wife and I have been teaching in Spain for the past 2 years and instead of returning to the United States for the Summer I was thinking of looking for work for the summer. From what I am being told our legal working status will have a gap in the summer, so I was thinking we could go to another country and work. I am not sure how common it is to do something like this and I really want to avoid any sort of illegal work situation. Could any of you point me in a direction for a country that offers legal work for the summer. Our summer starts sometime between June 1st – 15th (our school hasn’t given us a concrete date yet) and we won’t have to return until October, so any programs that fit that career would be spectacular =)
Gender(s): Male (Female)
Nationality: American (American)
Age: 27 (29)
Qualifications
BA (BA)
CELTA
2 years of ESL Teaching experience (2 years of ESL teaching experience)
2 Years of Cambridge exam prep experience
I don’t expect to find a job for both of us, but I thought I would put her information on here just in case =)
Thank you guys so much! |

Hello John,
Do you expect to make any money or is it just for experience? Summer-only hiring is usually done for people already at the location. The cost and time constraint of getting things done usually excludes out-of-country hires. The exception of course, being programs that don't pay anything or offer a minimal stipend. I think the answer to your question lies in what you guys can financially handle. |

There are a great number of teachers with similar quals to yours on the European job market in that time period, for the same reasons you are seeking work. That's why you are unlikely to find much on offer in other areas.
BTW, curious how you are legal in Spain; it is rare for US citizens to find a legal in. |

Santi - I am hoping to just make ends meat but based on what you two have said I think I may be shooting too high.
Spiral - We came with the Auxiliary assistant program and have student visas through that program. The position is paid via a government grant so we are able to work an additional job up to 20 hours, which we do now. We are renewing for another year, but I am being told since the Government is slow in issuing the required document to secure our extension of the visa there will be a delay in our legal work status that usually last the entire summer.
Best case scenario I am able to convince them to give us the document sooner than we received it in the past and we can secure legal work here. However, I wanted to get on here to see if there was any sort of summer work anyone knew of in case that doesn't happen. |
