I am going on Kidney Dialysis soon and that will be the end of my days as a traveller. I started travelling at the age of 15 when I went to visit Poland as part of a Youth Group. I satisfied my curiosity about travel by taking to teaching and worked in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Zambia, Nigeria and Bulgaria.

Those days are at an end when I have to go for hospital-based dialysis three times a week. I hope to get to my Three Score and Ten in February 2017. Until then I am broadening my horizons by visiting parts of my homeland that I have not seen. Next stop - Culloden.

Will let you know how it feels to have my life-blood sucked out by a machine, cleaned and returned to my faltering blood vessels.

Dear scot

Very sorry to hear that you'll be more stationary in future; clearly 'stationary' isn't really your cup of tea!
I'm sure everyone hopes you'll stick around at Dave's; your experience and insights continue to inform and inspire (and entertain - equally valuable:-)).
Happy local travels to you.

Best,
spiral

scot47,

I've always enjoyed your insightful comments when you visited the China forums.

You have been a world traveler. Now become a mind traveler.

Start writing those books.

I am looking for an amanuensis. Preferably one with skills in cooking. This would be an intern position and I would charge minimal fees. An excellent opportunity to work with a creative, cranky old b******.

They can take the blood out, but not the humor.

I have discovered that the technique of Kidney Dialysis was developed in the Nerherlands when that country was occupied by the Germans in WW2. How curious.

If you do find your way to the Culloden battlefield, I recommend a visit to nearby Fort George, a fine example of an 18th century artillery fort.

I'm ashamed to admit I don't carry a card.

I have been to Fort George. Built by the Hanoverians to make sure that there was no more trouble after 1746. It displays how scared the Regime was !
