Transliteration from Arabic is very problematic. Sadly, there has never been an "official" standardization of how to represent the Arabic sounds into English. You will even see websites with more than one way to spell the name of the institution.
Note how many spellings you see of the name Mohammed.

Al Qatif or Al Qateef
There is a vowel between the Q and the T !!!!!!!!! It is a short vowel and only appears in Arabic as a diacritical.
It is customary in MSA to omit the diacriticals, bt w nd thm in nglsh r t nds p lkkng lk ths |

The difference between Al Qatif and Al Qateef is like the difference between "Jamil" and "Jameel" (means "beautiful" in Arabic) - Egyptian Arabic Dialect uses "Gameel" with a different pronunciation of the letter "J".
