I'm in the process of pursuing my PhD (Composition and TESOL). How do schools like Clark and Wenzhou view non traditional doctoral applicants from lower tier US schools?
After communicating with various schools, I've found a few that offer summer cohorts (meaning I can keep my current position throughout the process).
Research courses are taught during the first 3 summers. After completing the courses, you will prepare for your dissertation for the next two to three years. I've confirmed students can complete it abroad.
Not exactly online. More like a hybrid on campus. All courses are taught in class. Students will have stateside residency status throughout the process.
All opinions welcomed. Especially from those on hiring committees. |

I worked for Clark and was offered a position with Kean-Wenzhou.
No doctorate - I was enrolled in an online EdD program with a lower tier university at the time I applied with Kean.
My MA degrees are from a lower-tier university, done online.
I suspect that they might give preference to "better" or more traditional degrees, but it doesn't seem to be a major handicap.
Hope this helps. |
