Hi everyone,
Hi i'm a British passport holder and I've been told that I will need a police clearance in order to get a work permit. Can this be done online (I'm not in the UK at the moment)? Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, does this have to be notarised?
I'll appreciate any info you can share.

Not sure what police clearance is legit from the UK, but both that and the degree need to be authenticated by the Chinese Consulate. I have been here 10 years and was required to do this a year ago.
I am guessing it goes this way:
1) Get the docs notarized
2) Get a stamp on them from the UK gov.
3) Get the Chinese consulate to authenticate them
Once the Chinese consulate authenticates them you are good to go. |

I'm mostly looking of a way to get my police clearance certificate without me having to go back to the UK. Maybe an online company or agent that handles the process? |

Use the Disclosure Scotland website, although you must have a UK address. If you have parents in the UK put their address and have them mail it to you, took about five days and 25 quid for me. |

Once you have the disclosure /police clearance , you can use an apostille service (there's one in Coventry) who can get it notarised , and authenticated by the Foreign Office in Milton Keynes and then the Chinese Embassy. It's not cheap , but much easier than having someone in the UK go through these three steps for you.
It's not an online process , because you need to send the original police clearance letter, and your payment form, to the apostille service.
Some police clearances (ACRO?) are signed by an official , so don't need to be notarised. But the basic disclosure letter from disclosure scotland is unsigned. |

Thus far, I have had to get both a Disclosure Scotland and an ACRO. The latter was far more easily obtained from distance. May be the way to go if the variety of check is not an issue with the employer and authorities. |
