Sorry, 'masochist'. You're correct.

One is a Saudi who at every level, undermines the rules and regulations of his own company and thinks that's really good management. The other westerner is a sycophant who looks after himself and couldn't care less about anything other than doing the minimal and taking lots of sick days.

Early morning starts and continual questioning of leave time and flights are the order of the day. All this will combine to wear you down over the months. Its not worth the extra money of 3000 SAR. Avoid, avoid, avoid unless you are a social masochist."

Just to echo desertdust's excellent post, the Saudi Training Manger is ignorance personified - personal and professional.

He had a low level functionaries position previously at Aramco. He got lucky, through wasta, he got the management position at GPT where because the teachers were on visas, he could hire and fire at will. Which he did without restraint until HR became alarmed at the unnecessary high staff turnover.

Interestingly, the Saudi is more restrained with the technical teachers. They are considered more difficult to recruit. So they are left largely alone. English Teachers however are seen as fair game as they are "ten a penny."

Also noteworthy is the view of a (Brit) senior manager there who has equivalent status to that of the Saudi. He told one poor teacher who had a justifiable grievance that he (the senior manager) would not intervene as all of the Saudi management tend to "gang up" on him if he said anything. He would not therefore assist the teacher. This is how corrupt and dysfunctional the place is.
