I am an ESL teacher currently teaching in Mexico City, a metropolis notorious for its air pollution. I've lived here for nearly 2 years, and except for a couple of isolated days, the polluted air hasn't been very noticeable. I recently have been looking into Warsaw as a possible place to teach, but I have been discouraged by recent articles of smog and air pollution. For people currently living in Warsaw; is it really that bad, or is it livable? I know that the reality of a place can be vastly different from depiction in the media.

I don't know much about Warsaw but down south it got pretty bad during the winter. Too many people burning all sort of rubbish in their fireplaces. Katowice is the worst area. Krakow also has terrible pollution at times. Also, south of these cities may seem like a nice area of foothills and green spaces but the pollution spreads.

Check out current pollution levels here: http://aqicn.org/map/poland/

or compare cities here

Warsaw not as much as other Polish cities in the south. But I would bring a mask with you for those really bad days.
