I interviewed for the NET scheme back in April and two weeks later, I was notified that I passed the interivew and subject to qualification and reference checking, my name will be passed on to schools for "further qualification". That was two months ago and I haven't heard jack. I even e-mailed the lady that e-mailed me about my interview notification (I believe her name was Katherine Wong and her e-mail address was aanetadm2 or something like that....)twice with no reply. Does that mean they don't want me anymore?? It kinda harsh for EMB to give people false hope, isn't it? We are moving halfway across the world for this job. I mean, if they don't want to hire me anymore, don't you think the EMB should have the decency to inform me?? I mean, most jobs wouldif after they interview you, they decided you weren't suitable for the job. Should I call?? and if so, who should I ask for? |

This appears to be a common probelm with the EMB administration in the NET scheme. Many here have echoed your complaints.
From what the existing NETs have said here, it is definitely worth calling the EMB and start asking for answers. One NET purportedly did this twice a week, every week until he/she was informed of the situation. I'd ask for the lady with whom you have been trying to establish email contact with. You don't get anything in this world without asking!
Some NETs in the past haven't known until August - ask 'ScottinHK' - so don't lose hope. Best of luck with it all. |

Yes, the EMB can appear heartless. By all means contact them. My first contract arrived in the mail July 1st. So, although the waiting game is difficult, don't panic just yet.
Hope to see you in HK. |

the lady finally replied and said the competition is very strong this year and schools tend to want people with more experience so "i regret to inform you that most likely, we would not be able to refer you to any schools". so i guess off to japan i go! |

You can still apply directly to schools who recruit in the SCMP.
Good luck in Japan. Perhaps, living in that region could be a stepping-stone to HK in the future.
Don't sweat it. And, hold your head up for trying! |

A friend and I were interviewed in Australia in April, one for PNet and the other high school. Apparently only a couple of people here who passed the interview have heard so far. I think it could be a matter that EMB is still getting their act together rather than what experience you have. Shall keep on hoping, but the schools we teach at here would really like to know so they can arrange their staffing if we go. We all feel "up in the air". |

Akyl: Could I ask how much post-qualification teaching experience you have? It would be handy to have an idea what the EMB 'more experience' is!
Japan sounds like a good idea. I'll be tempted to follow suit if I can't get employed in Hong Kong next year. |
