|
|
Hello,
Does anyone know what the dress code is for female ESL instructors working at KAU's ELI?
The faculty handbook states that short skirts and bare shoulders are to be avoided. Anyone know how short is "short"?
Can skirts and dresses fall between calf and ankle, or do they have to be ankle length?
Are slits that go up to the knees permitted?
What about tops? Can they be short-sleeved, as long as the shoulders are not bare?
Any restrictions on footwear? Wedges ok? Bare heels? Height restrictions?
Thanks! |

Although Jeddah isn't as conservative as other cities in the kingdom, female teachers still need to dress appropriately, which generally includes:-- Nothing tight/fitted and definitely no low-cut tops, bare shoulders or exposed midriff
-- Sleeves should be long enough to cover elbows. BTW, you'll want to take some lightweight cardigans to keep from freezing in the classrooms and office buildings. This is typical of just about every air-conditioned indoor space in the Mid East.
-- Ankle or maxi-length skirts/dresses are required, and slits shouldn't go higher than your knee. Use your best judgment.
-- Slacks and dress pants generally aren't allowed - that was the case for my female teaching friends in Riyadh as well. An exception may be the traditional salwar kameez ensembles worn by some Pakistani and Indian teachers.
-- Sandals are fine but not casual shoes like flip-flops and noisy "clickety-clack" shoes. Flats and wedges are more comfortable for being on your feet while teaching, so save your high heels for special occasions outside of work.
-- No abaya while teaching . |
