Who works for a foreign university partnership scheme, and do you pay tax? A colleague of mine recently moved to Nottingham Ningbo -there they earn 19000/28000 RMB after tax, but tax is most definitely paid. I work for another UK university but our set up is different, it is a franchise and we are contractors, they pay is in GBP and no-one seems to want to tax us - I am Irish in China working for a British outfit and no-one wants to tax me - fair enough, I say I have colleagues who work directly for the British partner - IE employees, not contractors who pay full British tax, I know people who teach on international programmes in Guangzhou but are directly employed by the Chinese partner and pay Chinese tax on a Chinese salary.
Anyone know the story elsewhere? Liverpool Suzhou? Anywhere else - it seems to be a very tangled web... |

At XJTLU, we are not employed by Liverpool (or Xi'an Jiaotong - the XJ). We are employed by XJTLU, which is a separate institution. Therefore, we are taxed as normal employees (unless the employee's previous tax home has a tax-free agreement with China). |
