Ah, the blissful days of summer. Living as I do in Paradise (57 days out of the year, anyway), I've decided to list those activities which give me greatest pleasure while on holiday.

--Fishing at dusk
--cooking out in the back yard, under the billion stars, while fireflies twinkle
--the clean, blue and green days of Maine, with white puffy clouds, 10 dollars in dimes in your pocket and yard sales every where
--having company and drinking beer and eating lobster
--reading a book for 4 hours straight
--tending the garden
--going to the beach
--riding bikes up and down the road with my nieces and nephews
--not having to dress up every day and wearing the same pair of cargo shorts for three days in a row.....

Enjoy your vacation and post which activities you like!

Vacation??? Whats that then?

Or is that what you call torturing the kids with an extra 8 weeks of "summer school"? Twisted Evil

One of the major downsides of living and working in Egypt (as I just discovered AFTER I accepted the job) was the complete lack of vacations... So enjoy your garden and think of us poor b*stards who live in appartments!!! Wink

A traditional British activity for the summer. normally reserved for Sundays and rarely, really enjoyed until the summer reaches us again;
A lie-in.

Dear Alitas,

Ah, but that's what makes the "good life" so good - the contrast. No light without dark, no "free time" without employment.
All work and no play may make Jack a dull boy
but
All play and no work would soon seem dull, as well.
Regards,
John

In a few weeks I'll be off for 8 weeks of holiday in British Columbia. Not teaching anyway, since I'm doing my Masters.

Introducing my daughter to all her nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, grandparents....
Sitting by the lake, waterskiing, snoozing and making sand castles.
BBQ's almost every night eating salmon and great Cdn beef
Playing tennis and golf
Reading English newspapers which are more than 25 pages long
Listening to the radio and knowing or caring what they're saying
DQ Blizzards
Not needing air conditioning
Going up to Whistler and admiring God's creations
Not knowing if it is Monday or Thursday

whoever said mums cooking is spot on, but may i just pinpoint exaclty what: The Sunday Roast. The epitome of luxury cuisine, the meal you would have to ask for if you were on death row. Oh my god is it tasty. Yorkshire puddings, nice bit of lamb, roasted carrots, peas, that yellow mash she does. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmmm.

And whats best is you can lie in and the smell wakes you up! Can you imagine the joy of waking up, pulling on yesterdays clothes and moseying downstairs for a full sunday roast with all the trimmings?

Bit of that this summer and I'm going interrailing too. (cant wait to get to morocco)

Why, I'll have you know that I am a shining example of the polite and genteel entrance (though I did kick in a few classroom doors back in Riyadh when some prank-playing students locked them from the inside.)

Regards,
Jack
