Anyone out there have any recent info on Proulex PV? Is the maniac director talked about in prior posts still there?!

And/or any other schools that hire ESL/EFL'ers in the PV area??

Muchas gracias!

PJ

Gaspar - That very well could be the case. I assumed that they offered ESL classes because they have an ESL program in Vancouver. Also, a couple of years ago I was corresponding with them about a teaching position. I guess they dropped it.

I just came back from PV last week and I was looking into Proulex as well. I had never heard of it before, but more than a few locals recommended it to me as being a TEFL school.

As well, if you look at TEFLuniversity.com they have a course in PV. I have been looking into that as well. btw, if anyone knows about the latter, please advise.

Becky:)

Well, it seems Proulex is probaly a good school, but the catch is, the teachers all speak in Spanish!! Even me with many years of speaking Spanish, would probably opt for a school that speaks my first language, so I can be sure of what's going down, & getting my moneys worth....

Meanwhile, there is another school in PV...I'm awaiting info they will send you via email...same price as Proulex, about 1200. american...

I worked at Proulex for 6 months but not in PV. I worked south of Guadalajara and had a boss that made the job miserable. They have very strict rules about punctuality where if you are 1 minute late to work 3 times you are deducted an entire hour of your pay. This also includes between classes. If you swipe your card between classes more than one minute late, you are also deducted an hour of your pay. You are constantly watched and surveyed by others that work there even if they are not your boss even when you go to the bathroom.
I am not sure if the same rules apply in all Proulex locations but be wary and ask about specific rules about punctuality. They also do not keep you informed about the status of your fm3. They told me that they were taking care of it and 6 months later I was informed that no actions had taken place to get my fm3. I was also told that I had health insurance. They were deducting money from my salary but when it was time to be paid from them for my sick time (which they told me I had) they never paid me. I am all for punctuality but Proulex lacks organization and honesty.
These were only my experiences with proulex at the location where I was and I am aware that other people might have completely different ones.

Hey Gaspar: Dancingdeb here again. I once replied to this same message and you may recall my opinion about Proulex in PV. As I said before, my daughter has worked there for almost 4 years. She hardly knew a lick of spanish when she moved there, so for the remark of the teachers teaching in spanish, is a total misguided statement. I do know however, that they do teach spanish classes and french classes at the school. Maybe this is where you are getting the idea that they teach in spanish. I also believe, that if you are a teacher there then French lessons are free. The spanish lessons I believe you have to pay for. I know 4 teachers who work there currently and none of them teach in spanish. THIS IS AN ESL SCHOOL. THERE IS NO TALKING SPANISH IN THE CLASSROOM!!! I say if you are still interested, just go and find out for yourself. As I stated before, my daughter and the 3 other teachers I know who work there are doing fine and seem to be enjoying themselves. My daughter loves her job and as they say "IF YOU LOVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING, YOU WILL NEVER WORK ANOTHER DAY IN YOUR LIFE"

Good Luck and don't listen to everyone else, find out for yourself. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
