I've been living in Chiayi for the past six months and only spent a few days in Taipei, which was a blur because I was new and looking for jobs.
Now that I have a few days off I am planning on spending some time in Taipei. Naturally, I'd like to hit a few western friendly pubs and clubs.
Now, by "western friendly" I simply mean that it would be nice to see some teachers and other westerners there, so I could meet new people.
So a pub or two would be great! And also would like to hit a popular dance club. I know about Ministry of Sound (?) but I think that's a tad intense for me and perhaps a little expensive.
I would welcome all suggestions at this point because I like a big vareity. I plan on being in Taipei from Wed, July 7-Fri or Sat the same week, so please respond ASAP.
Oh and if you know of any decent hotels in the range of $1,500-2,000NT that would be nice.
Cheers |

For dance clubs many foreigners like Carnegies, Vibe, Roxy 99, Plush. For low-key and friendly pubs try Watershed, Peso, Citizen Cain, Roxy Jr., B1, 45, the Shannon.... you can look up addresses at this website under the "Restaurants, Bars & Clubs" forum: www.forumosa.com. Have fun. |

Thanks WorkingVacation!
At the moment, 35 people have viewed this post and I have received one reply. Hmmmmm .
And here I thought this would be a popular question, stirring up endless debate and thoughtful responses, weeding out the weaklings and narrowing the list down to five of the top clubs in Taipei.
And thanks for the tip on Forumosa. I also checked out the Fun in Taiwan site (Taiwan Fun?) and it also lists the clubs. However, it's better to have personal recommendations.
Cheers and have a great day. |

Forget the Roxy ones. They are both bad news. 45 is a good place to go out to begin with (if you can find it). B1 is all you can drink but if you drink beer then you can only drink light beer. Beware of taxi drivers. A good tip is to bring an MRT map with you, especially if it's in Chinese, and circle your closest station. Good luck.
