Asking for a friend.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of agencies that will connect you to people who want private tutoring lessons in Shenzhen as there are in other tier 1 cities. So how would you go about finding privates in Shenzhen, as a newbie to the city? Posting ads online, perhaps? If so, which sites?

Wechat is your friend! Create a seperate account 'Mr/Ms. X - English teacher/Physics tutor/etc. and use the people near by function. (I wonder has anybody tested this out as I feel it's a top idea Wink )
Also, you could make up some flyers and ask for them to be put up in some local coffee shops, etc.
Word of mouth and reputation should take over soon enough.

There's a recent thread on this forum where jmbf detailed some useful info about private work.

Here's one website which a quick google search turned up:

http://www.findmyfavouriteteacher.com/students-searchresult.php?lang_id=en&mode=search&language=English&country=42&state=Guangdong

Seems they have a few teachers based in Shenzhen. No idea about the quality of this service though. Might be worth investigating them further (or not)?

Is it safe to put up fliers?

Will the authorities be curious to validate your credentials/visa?

Yeah, fair point, it's mostly Chinese tutors that use this tactic. Not worth the risk, especially if you don't have a RP!

Word of mouth referrals are much safer (and the preferred way of finding new students anyway).

Regarding the authorities, I don't think I've heard of a teacher getting deported for teaching private students on the side per se. I've heard of teachers getting deported for not having the appropriate visa / work permit but that's not the same. Has anyone heard of a teacher with the right permit getting in trouble with the authorities specifically for teaching privately on the side?
