|
|
Gday,
made the decision recently to leave Japan and I am wondering what people have done with their last pay - the school I work for won't give my last pay in advance but at the usual time, approximately 3 weeks after I leave. When I asked, they suggested getting a special international creditcard account and withdrawing the money from back home, OR getting a friend to take the money out for me and sending it onwards.
Is there a simpler way? Automatic Furikomis or something? |

They should definitely pay you all you are owed on the day you finish. This has to be the case because that is the day your contract finishes. To not do so is pure pedantry as it costs them nothing to settle with you on that day.
There must be someone on here who knows the legal case for this. head down to Nagoya International CEnter and talk to their lawyer people. |

They don't have to pay you on the last day but they do have to pay you within 7 days of leaving. This is on the GU website. |

if that's the case, then 7 days or 14 days is irrelevant... |

Most schools do not pay you on the last day of your contract. Nova has told every one that left my school during my tenure (and me when I left)that in no way will they do that. We must wait for regular paydays. The suggestion is the same as above... Get SMBC to give you an international bank card and you can get it out once you are home.. give your card or passbook to a trusted friend and have them send it to you. You can ask for them (the school) to send you a check. (cheque) Nova will charge you a big chunk as a service fee and take it out of the final check. |

I joined the teachers union last year, and they tell me that the law states that the school is required by law to pay you 7 days after the finish of the contract OR before you leave Japan. If you are a member of the Union, they can present this point to the school. Good Luck !
