Normally, if time was tight, teachers could come (not interested in discussing legality) on a tourist visa and fly to Hong Kong (for example) to get their Z visa.

As I understand it, now China requires a 3 month stay in the 3rd location (such as Hong Kong). Anyone else have information on this and a potential workaround?

Is it only Hong Kong?

The HK tourist visa is 90 days, so you wouldn't be able to apply until it expired.

I thought you needed to be a resident of another country to do it from there.

From what I gather from my school's assistant, this new rule affects all 3rd locations, not just Hong Kong.

In my case, I'm a resident of USA.

Basically, I'm concerned that the Z-visa processing (on hold right now while waiting for my teaching cert.) won't be concluded until after my scheduled start date.

Ordinarily this wouldn't be an issue vis a vie, the tourist visa/Hong Kong Z visa process. But now this is all up in the air.

If the school can't accept you coming late, I'd get a job that gives you resident status somewhere else and apply to China from there.

I don't understand how they can insist on a 3 month waiting period... What they won't process papers until that waiting time is up - or they expect that's how long it takes to process?

OP what district or city is asking for this now - and does anyone have any other details?

The FE offices has changed a lot of things - some of it retroactively - to implement these new nation wide regulations - but this I haven't heard of...

I don't think wait was meant, it seems like you mean three months of residence on a country? Is that right?
