Has anyone received the new work permit under the new system? Can I get some information on how long it took?

It is currently taking three weeks for renewals and up to six weeks for transfers and new applications.

If you are talking about the actual paper permit, my understanding is that not all cities will be issuing the new permit until sometime next year.

But here's the latest news about it that I've found:

http://www.china-briefing.com/news/2017/05/16/chinas-work-visa-unified-work-permit-benefits-foreigners.html

It's a bit disturbing that SAFEA has taken over the process of issuing all foreign work permits, given it poor performance in every area in the past.

In a related matter, there's this little ditty:

http://en.safea.gov.cn/2017-02/07/content_28123975.htm

Though I haven't looked, there may be even more current news that supersedes everything contained in the above-cited articles.

Good luck to us all.

"...However, the new card will be more commonly accepted in daily life. A foreign permanent resident could, for example, apply for a driver's license using only his or her green card."

That was the function of the FEC. The first paragraph on the first page accords full rights that the citizen enjoys. I never experienced that at all.

Is that for an online application?

The first link you posted is slightly obsolete now. Some of the documents listed as no longer required are in fact required and have been added to the list of things needed.

It is point of fact unless your existing or new school were able to process your application under the old system before 15th June this year you will be forced on to the new one. The old system is no longer accepting applications.

It is taking far longer than ever before to process, even for renewals. The major issue being is that all establishments have to re register for the new system and can't even begin processing your documents until they have done so and been approved.

The work permit card must be obtained before the PSB will even look at your application for a resident permit. Even they have changed, I received mine a few days ago and it now has my photo on it.

As I said, expect anywhere between three and six weeks, longer if your school is still dealing with their own registration.

Once your school has made their applications online, they go into a queue and will be dealt with in whatever order they are received at the FEB. They are reviewed and if there is some discrepancy an internal message is sent to the school asking them to remedy it. When it reaches the third stage, the application status will change from red to green and when the card is printed your FAO can go and pick it up. That is for renewals and transfers.

For new applications the work permit letter is a similar procedure, the employer then begins the process of applying for the work permit card once the applicant is already in China with his/her z visa. I haven't had experience of this time frame yet, but have been told to apply for it as soon as they arrive.

Agree with above, this doesn't sound easier at all.

Bud, I read that link that you posted and began to think what eventually appeared in that article:

A first hand source who classified themselves as a B level candidate and made an application under the new system has indicated that preparation of necessary documents for application can be an extremely taxing and time consuming task if education and work experience was gathered internationally.

I plan to get back into the work game here in Our China for September 2018. This summer's project will be preparing the necessary documents for that upcoming Z visa application--this is by far the earliest that I will have ever prepared a Z visa application.

I'll be in the States for 4 weeks this summer. I imagine that preparation alone of the proper documents will take up that entire four-week period.

I am curious about the situation with the new system regarding transfers. I had a transfer for a new job just last January which was relatively easy, but with the new system will transfers now more be complex, requiring more documentation gathering?

Depends where you're going in China. Some provinces/locations haven't implemented the new policy yet. If you're going to a province that requires the new stuff then you're in for a long process.
