Hi all,

More uncertainty at the largest PYP in Saudi Arabia, King Saud University, where hundreds of native TEFLers await their fate.

Contracts are ending and up for renewal but Al Hussan have clearly been told that they can no longer be paying their teachers 16/17K+. So their teachers will have to take a cut if they are to remain.

Meanwhile Al Hussan management have offered iqama transfers to their 100+ teachers.... IN RETURN FOR 10K.

Go figure. Another day in the crazy Saudi TEFL world.

Cheers

Are Al Hussan the only contractors there, or are ICEAT, Al Khaleej also there?

This is only the beginning. There is going to be no return to 100 dollar a barrel oil. It's expected to go down even further.

Edex, ICEAT, and SBC still have some presence there. KSU has always had a few contractors but recently it has just gone downhill.

The new SBC contract last year meant new teachers were paid about 13k all in. There will be more downward pressure this time and all related services (housing, visa, iqama) will inevitably deteriorate.

Al Hussan know this and therefore have offered their teachers an iqama transfer in return for hard cash.

Al Hussan's deal is still significantly cheaper than ICEAT's asking price for a transfer. Last year, ICEAT had asked their employees to give up all of their end of service to get a transfer. Some employees had 5+ years worth of settlement, which they grudgingly gave up to get a transfer. 10K sar is reasonable.

For sure, in comparison to ICEAT's deal last year, this is bit of a bargain.

ICEAT's shenanigans last year were such a shame. After having built up a fantastic reputation as probably one of the best contractors in the kingdom, they shocked everyone with their demand/blackmail.

A teacher with years of service was essentially spat in the face by asking him/her to give up their EOB. Frankly that is low, shameful, and it can't be legal!

Hi All!

Yes, ICEAT's demand was shameful. I know more than 8 teachers who left last year because of that. A very good teacher worked more than 4 years with ICEAT and they asked him to give up his EOB. He refused and came back to Blighty! He wasn't alone many I know did the same ( I was one of the teachers who refuse to give up their EOB).
If it was like Alhussan, I would have paid the sum for the transfer.

Hi mate,

Good on ya for taking a stand against such ridiculous conduct and behaviour. How they could've even came up with the suggestion, let alone put the offer to you on the table, is beyond me.

Were you guys eventually paid your EOB?? I do know a few who received attractive job offers elsewhere so they decided to give in.

Hi there!
To tell the truth, until the renewal of contract Bu**Sh** , iceat was no1 company in KSU. I would still be working with them if they won the contract>
My witness (who is a very good teacher ) attended ICEAT sham job fair and mentioned he counted 5 applicants until 12:00 noon first day. He had taught in KSU until he had to come back to UK last year for family reasons. He's desperate now and needs a job in the Gulf. H

Regards!
