|
|
So, near the end of our paperwork, when trying to get a university position in China, there's this application you're supposed to submit to the Entry Bureau, with a passport-style picture with a white background and all.
My colleague was rejected because the background on the picture was slightly off white and also because they demanded he list every job he's ever had since graduation.
Now it's my turn to submit. And I don't know if I have to faithfully go down the list for them. Before my current university job in Europe (been here for 4 years), I worked all kinds of jobs - from security officer to private school teacher, from newspaper editor to lodging manager. All over the place.
What do you do? I doubt they have any way of verifying what jobs we've been doing. Isn't it best to omit the jobs which have no relevance to the position we're applying for? |

I am 99.9% certain that they don't have a way of checking unless it is the CIA or former KGB. They want it in chronological order and not grouped for example teaching and non-teaching but all jobs on the current resume should be listed again in order.
My school is working on getting me the visa but it is posts like this that have me working on a plan B in case of a fail. |

I just had to do the same thing listing everything from the time I got my Masters Degree in 1991 until 2006 when my resume stops. I just bs'ed a lot of as half the companies I worked for back in the 90's when I was scraping around trying to find a teaching job are now no longer in business. I also had to write one sentence descriptions of what I did. If I had to put that on a real resume mine would be like 5 pages long
I highly doubt they will be calling all those companies I worked for 25 years ago. |

| China seems to enjoy toying with people who are making the effort to cross the world and give them an education they so sorely lack, and need. |

My guess is that the reason given for the rejection is BS.
It is very easy to get a new picture with the correct background, fill in the additional jobs, etc.
Probably some other reason is the real reason, and in China many times you will never know the real reason for what happens. |

My last application for a Residency Permit was rejected at first due to 'incomplete information', turns out they wanted my high school grades included on my C.V. Despite having an authenticated master's degree, bachelor's degree, and CELTA (originals to hand) they still wanted to know my high school test scores for some reason. Additionally, I'm British and never went to high school. I just opened my C.V., made a new heading 'high school' added a fake high school name, wrote down some subjects, and added 'A's and 'B's next to them.
Accepted. Sometimes you have to wonder... |

They gave him another chance to resubmit. How sweet of them! |

That's just insane. Asking for high school grades from someone who's got Master's! Even your bachelor's degree and grades should be irrelevant at that point. |

That's true. But to be fair, we're just trying to make an extra buck, the easy way. For the most part. |

| What got me was they seemed all bent out of shape because in my 20+ years of work about a year of it (from 15 years ago) was left blank. They were incredibly suspicious. I explained to them I wasn't working because my parents needed me to live with them at that time to take care of them - my mother had cancer. After I told them it was as if they didn't even hear me and just carried on how I have 1 year unaccounted for. |

In regards to past jobs, all they want to see that there are no gaps in your history.
On my most recent application they asked for jobs for the last ten years.
Anyway, just put in some info so the dates match up. I've even written "unemployed" on one request.
Whoever checks it probably just looks through the dates and makes sure there are no gaps. If there is a gap, then it's rejected.
Ridiculous, but we need to play by their rules.
Also, as mentioned in another post, no one is going to fact check your data. I've contacted my references in the past and they've said no one ever checked. |

yeah I put "unemployed" when in several places I was actually unemployed or was between jobs as when I would be arriving back in the states. I made sure there were no gaps in my employment history |

Proof of prior work: to prove your teaching expertise, the content of the proof must include the position, the work time, the company's contact information, the former employer’s seal or signature of the director. P

Hello Everyone: I too am concerned about this requirement. I just received this from a university that just offered me a job. I am 56 years old, and some of the places I taught at 15-25 years ago, no longer exist, so getting the employer's seal or signature of the director is impossible. Any advice?

By "they" you mean the university people or someone from the Entry Bureau?
The university HR was actually pretty nice about it and they didn't care for such details. It's the government Entry Bureau that's giving me jazz. |

You only need a signature and/or stamp from your most recent work place where you were teaching. You need to prove that you have taught for at least 2 years.
For myself, the last university I worked for provided a letter saying that I was their employee from 2013-2017 as a Lecturer of English Communication Skills. Then they signed and stamped it and that was accepted. |
