|

Hello everyone, I'm new here and I have a newbie question - everyone get excited!!
Searching, how does it work?
Say I want to search for "English First China" using the site search feature.
A Google tab opens up with all the mentions of English First. Most of these are job opportunities. A few are forum discussions.
I go to google.com and enter "site:daveseslcafe.com English First China" - I get 19 results.
I realize this forum has been around for ages so most everything has been discussed at one time or another and I want to be able to take advantage of that. I also don't want to bother the existing user base by being such a pleb and asking about things that have been answered a zillion times.
Can someone give me some pointers on producing more effective searches?
Thanks for reading! |

So it's "site:www.eslcafe.com" let's get that right.
Here's an example of why I would like some tips on using the search function.
There was/is a post titled "250 hour OnTesol", posted within the last month or two. When I search site:www.eslcafe.com 250 OnTESOL - I get results, but I don't get THAT result.
Is there anything I can do to improve my searches? I'm not a novice computer/internet user so I'm not certain why it seems difficult to find what I am looking for. |

Unfortunately, you usually get better results using Google. |

Hello, Marinx, and welcome! I do not use the site search box. I find the search link lower on the page much more useful for searching this site. Look below the site search feature you are using, on the right site of the page. Immediately below the words "Job Discussion Forums" in black, is a cluster of seven blue links. "Search" is on the top line, right after "FAQ." Click on it, and take it from there!
Again, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome, AGoodStory! The search function you have pointed out is definitely much better than the site search. In combination with google I'm sure I'll be able to find everything I need! |
