Hello all! I have received an offer to teach in Nanchang, China, for 8500RMB with accomodation provided. I have a lot of prior business experience so I assume thats why I got a typically higher starting salary offer. Im looking for any comments anyone has on Nanchang as a city? Im also wondering If I will be able to save some money on the aforementioned salary, Im pretty frugal, but I do like to go out usually once a week, and would like to do some traveling maybe once every three or four months, to Hong Kong, Thailand, Maybe Japan. Any comments are appreciated! thanks, Shawn

As your plane approaches the airport in Nanchang, if you look out the window you might think that you are about to land in the middle of a golf course. The airport is about a twenty minute drive from Nanchang via an uncrowded toll road that goes through low rolling hillls and many rice paddies. The city itself is the usual Chinese mix of old and new. My experience in the city has been as the guest of the city council so I was afforded treatment that I doubt you will enjoy as a teacher. Any comments I might make would probably not be relevant to your situation.

I have only been there during the summer months, it was very hot and very humid. I like that kind of weather, so it didn't bother me, but you should be aware that it is very tropical there.

Good luck!
