here is a specific question for somebody- can you get nicotine gum here? i have only been here (zhuhai, guangdong prov) for two weeks. it is a real shame that i quit, seeing as how dirt cheap cigs are here, and seeing as how you can light up anywhere (the best was the other day at my school when the owner was puffing away while surrounded by tots, and with a tot on her lap! )
anyway, my stash of gum that i brought with me is fast dwindling...so if they do have it here, maybe someone knows the word(s) for it in mandarin? even better, if someone wanted to email me the characters for it...
i was about to just walk into a pharmacy here with one of my boxes and try to muddle through on my own, but i thought i'd check here first.

I believe you can get the patch but not the gum. You will also likely be offered Ancient Chinese Herbal remedies which may or may not help. Good luck not the easiest place IMO to give up cigs and/or booze.

I've definitely seen the patches too. I _think_ I saw the gum once in a huge multi-story Merro pharmacy. This is not exactly a quitting-smoking-aware environment.
Not sure of your locale or circumstances but if you can, consider going to Hong Kong and stocking up on it. Should be easy to locate there.

God help you trying to quit smoking in this place. But hang in there. I wish I had your guts.
