I am in a SE Asian country, and applying for jobs in China, TW, VN, etc. They all require a police check with a stamp.
What do you do if you are not in the US. Fly to the US?
Not necessarily. You most probably need someone with a notarized power of attorney back home to do it for you.
I had given one to my accountant back home some years ago. When I needed the police check, he asked me to send him my scanned DL and my passport page. Then, he went to the local police department and got it for me.
He charged me $100 for the service.
I may still have to have it apostilled or notarized but he can do it for me and then, FedEx it to me. Again, may cost a couple of hundred $$$, but still cheaper than flying to the US, staying there, etc.
I think that if you have no one with your POA, you may download a form, then go to the US Embassy and have it notarized. Then, send it to the person.
This is all bothersome, I know, but it's still cheaper than having to do it personally by traveling home if you are in some faraway part of the world. |
