I am planning to work in the U.K this summer and the university have just told me that they only pay into U.K. bank accounts. However, I don't have one (only an Irish) I was wondering if anyone has recent information on the process of doing this and what sort of documents the bank would require. The uni hasn't been very forthcoming with information on this, so I would appreciate any advice!

You would need a proof of identity document and proof of address. Some banks may require two forms of ID but usually the above is sufficient.

Opening a UK bank account can be quite difficult. I tried several times before I became resident and had no success. If you are in the Irish Republic. your bank there may provide some help. Ask. Or nip over the border into Derry or Belfast and see what can be done there.

You could try Metro Bank. A couple of teachers from the EU said that they opened an account with them.
I think all they had was their work contract and ID.

Most British banks will not let you open a UK account unless you are British or resident in the UK for at least 6 months to generate a credit history.

One bank that does cater for residents in the EU including British people who are resident in other parts of the EU is Santander.
