I've been studying the Japanese visa reqirements and it seems that it is necessary to have 12 years of formal education in English. I'm concerned because after I completed the 8th grade I switched to homeschooling for the remainder of my secondary education. However my homeschooling was certainly done in English and I more than successfully passed my GED before I was admitted into college. I've since spent seven years getting education at the university which was all done in English. That would total 15 years of formal education in English, not counting kindergarten and a year of elementary education that I repeated. However, right now I'm looking at the ECC application and it says: "Were your 12 or 13 years of primary through secondary education conducted in English?", it seems to only be counting pre-college years. Technically I believe that I could say yes because my homeschooling was in English and the state of Indiana offically recognized my homeschooling as formal education when I was doing it. I'm hoping that I don't have a problem that would prevent me from being able to obtain a visa since there's no way that I can go back and get those last four years of public education. I'd apprecitate any help that can be provided.

If you are an American you need the university degree to get a working visa. The 12 year English rule really applies when you are not considered a native speaker of English and/or do not hold an American/Canadian/Australian passport.

With a US university degree and US nationality (i.e. born in the US) you should have no problems with the visa.

I was born in the U.S. and have a U.S. passport on order. I've already got my Bachelor's Degree from a Big Ten university so it seems that I've got everything in order. I'm not actually planning to apply until around January, but I wanting to do as much planning as possible in advance so that I minimize any unpleasant surprises that could come up at application time. Thanks for your help.
