How very interesting! I need to keep certain details under wraps and avoid vindictive management here in Gaytheon where the locals say "even the trees... ". I digress.

A certain company over on the eastern side contacted me and asked for a resume, if they hire me, I'll have to move over nearer Bahrain! It is very likely a steep pay cut and I have to find a compound to live in, so my question is this; are there affordable compounds in Dhahran? If so, what are the price ranges and do they include electricity and water? Do they come furnished? Hearing from teachers who rent from such compounds would be especially helpful.

There is a rising tide of esl teachers acomin' afloodin' your way!

Help us find new digs please.

Bacon

Really? That's odd because there's a massive tsunami of your brethren following the midnite sun hightailing it to the west coast. And guess what.....you're all going to meet in the middle of the Rub Al-Khali....after that, good luck.

My guess is that Eurovillage might be beyond the means of most EFLers

I know it is for sure having tried to get a place there when I first arrived... and that was on a contracted to Aramco salary. Would have made being here to save money pointless.

I wouldn't bother with compounds. Plenty of decent flats to rent both furnished and unfurnished and plenty of agents who speak enough English to help you out. Don't expect anyone to hold your hand, but plenty of us found accommodation ourselves when we arrived and no one died or ended up on the streets.

As to the OP, as the joker in the batman films would say:

"Not sure if serious!" Question Idea Twisted Evil

If it is not a wind up, then yes, renting in a western style compound with all the western style goodies, will not be doable for an ESL teacher, at least not without living in the direst penury I would imagine Question Exclamation
