Hi all

What kind of salaries do the Wall Street language schools in Jakarta offer? Is it enough to live comfortably (not too frugal, not too overindulgent)?

If anyone who has worked there could PM me I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

The salary was quoted on one of their recent adverts. Check the job list on here and you may still be able to find it. Most adverts state ‘competitive’ but the odd one has details.

I remember it being a little under 20 Juta plus maybe 4 Juta housing allowance per month. You’d need to check the advert to confirm. I remember thinking that it was reasonable actually, but not enough for me to go back to Indo for right now.

The last ad that I saw quoted salaries of between 16jt - 20jt, which sounds about right considering they were paying 12 jt back in 2009. There was no mention of any housing allowance, but they were offering a housing loan.

Yeah, you could live reasonably well on it, but I wouldn't count on saving much; it also depends whereabouts the branch is as rents vary wildly across Jakarta. Personally, I wouldn't live there for less than 20 jt and it'd have to be a better gig than Wall Street to get me to do that.

Don't forget you have to work every Saturday and Sunday (and public holidays) and the annual leave is pretty miserly. It used to be 12 days so I wouldn't imagine it's much more than that now. They were also experiencing massive problems in getting work visas for their teachers, but that may well be resolved now, I don't know.

I guess it's not a bad job for a newbie or for someone who's desperate to teach in Indonesia for whatever reason, but there's much better out there.

For example, I believe the Jakarta Korean school (JIKS) is currently recruiting and they pay double what Wall Street pay plus you get all those school holidays.
