Does anyone work for the DLI as and EFL teacher? I would appreciate any feedback that you can provide. I currently work for the Federal government and am a classroom instructor with my agency. I have six years of EFL teaching experience.

There are discussions on the Mid East forums about the DLI, but I assume you're referring to the DLI English Language Center at Lackland AFB in Texas. If so, check out their FAQ page, which has plenty of valuable info about teaching at the DLIELC. Anything not addressed in the FAQs could certainly be asked during an interview.

Hi, JZer,

In answer to your question, I don't work for DLI. I'm not sure if there is anyone currently active on the forum who does. If no one comes along who does, then you might try to contact Sadebugo, a member who hasn't posted for a while now. (You've been around Dave's long enough that you may remember him.) He spoke about working for DLI, and is, I think, now in Mexico. You might be able to reach him through his blog, which has an email address on the profile page.

AGoodStory, thank you. I talked to Sadebugo a few years ago. He did a stint in Taiwan while working for the DLI English Language Center.

I wonder how difficult it is to get hired.

You won't know unless you apply. Wink

Just be sure to customize both your cover letter and resume to match the specifics for the position. Check out LinkedIn profiles of current DLIELC instructor for a sense of the type of experience and backgrounds the DLI looks for.

JZ:

The usajobs link is not easy to navigate but if you complete the blank field in the upper left SEARCH JOBS as "ESL teacher," an announcement appears. The EXPLORE OPPORTUNITIES did not yield any ESL listings. I know a former colleague who has been teaching there for years and indicated there had been a hiring freeze but there appear to be several vacancies now. The window for applications is 9/7 - 9/12/2017! Good luck.

Thank you for the advice. The instructors I found had a M.A. in TESOL.

I have already applied. I find it hard to believe that they have several vacancies.
