Hi there, just wondering if anybody has taught here, or knows anyone that has taught here, and could give me a bit of information about what the conditions are like? Is it a good place to work?
Anything to look out for?

From what I have been able to find, it seems as though it's a fancy public school with an international division.

This school is near Zhangjiang High Tech Park, Pudong, Shanghai.
What are the rents like for a 50 - 80 sq meter 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in the area?

I had an interview with them last year. It was odd, because I could tell they were not impressed with my CV, so I am unsure why they wasted their time interviewing me. They also did not send me a thanks but no thanks email. I know it is common, but it irks me when I make it to the interview stage and employers don’t send an email to thank me for my time, but they have decided to go with somebody else.

The school itself seems to be decent quality. ECNU is a decent institution, by Chinese standards. But, they even told me in the interview, that they don’t pay well. It is, in some sense, a prestige job. It can help you move up the ladder to a better school. Unlike high paying private bilingual schools, which are career killers.

I think, seeing my fiancée’s experience this year teaching in the international division of a public high school, v my experience of teaching in a private bilingual school, despite the fact that I would take a 6K a month pay cut, I’d rather work in the public school, like ECNU.

Thanks for the reply. Your experience somewhat reflects my own when dealing with this school. The interview process was straightforward, and they were extremely transparent regarding pay and benefits etc. They were happy to let me speak with other teachers, and really went out of their way to make sure I knew exactly what I would be in for if I accepted the offer.
Having an employer be so up-front with a potential hire was a breath of fresh air in China, where there is so much subterfuge and dissembling.

For a variety of reasons I ended up staying at my current job, but this school seems like it would be an alright place to work.
