Assume (1) a job offered is offered and accepted; (2) supporting documents have been stamped, the first stamp itself stamped, and all these stamps were stamped again, then sent away for a visa.
Is it possible to get the documents returned? How probable is it? What is the norm? Does the Chinese government keep these, destroy them? Return them to the school?
I myself want them back.
I ask this for the reason that, if the place I am going to is bunk, I may wish to find another place to work; and, I would prefer not to have to get new documents prepared, notarized etc..
Or, is it the case that, once I get a Z-visa it is relatively easy to make a change and that an entire new set of documents is not needed?
I don't want to get trapped or make it more difficult to vote with my feet should I feel it necessary.

I take it the complete application has been sent to your local consulate?

| I just posted all the documents to China. They will use those to apply for the visa. I have not received the visa yet. But it would be nice to get all the notarized documents back for re-use if necessary given all the time and expense it takes to get them in the first place. |

Not sure about this.
Your visa will be stamped in your passport. Have you sent that to China as well?

No; I still have the passport; if or when visa is issued the visa will be placed into my passport in Toronto.
I have just sent all the officially stamped or notarized copies of my documents to China; it is those original documents that I want to get back.

What's done is done but normally you send your stuff - application form medical, invite letter and credentials to local (Toronto) consulate.
But that said the PRC isn't noted for consistency and the 'direction of travel' on visas is 'make it harder'.

Hmm. Something odd must be happening for not one, but two, different schools requested that I send the documents to China, not the consulate.
I'll find out soon enough if I can get the documents returned. |

Thanks that was what I was wondering.
The document phase is usually preparatory to employer issuing an invitation. This in turn enables you to apply for a visa at your local Chinese consulate. Once in China the school gets you a residence permit. |
